Victorian Energy Upgrades Program
If upgrading an inefficient electric or gas water heater, there are rebates available through the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program. The upgrade has to be provided by an accredited provider who are registered to sell Victorian Energy Upgrade products.  Every upgrade allows businesses accredited under the program called Accredited Providers to generate Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs). Each certificate represents one tonne of greenhouse gas that has been prevented from entering our atmosphere. Accredited providers offer discounted prices for a new hot water service as they are able to then sell VEECs to energy retailers.  The amount of rebate an Accredited Provider gives to its customers for participating in Victorian Energy Upgrades can vary.  For more information, indicative rebates or to find an accredited provider, please visit their website: https://www.victorianenergysaver.vic.gov.au/save-energy-and-money/discount-energy-saving-products/save-with-these-energy-efficient-products/hot-water-systems

Victorians are also eligible for the federal rebate in the form of Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs).  On average, STCs can save you $800-$1,000 on the cost of a new hot water heat pump system. You can find the number of STCs generated for a particular make & model with the REC Registry‚Äôs online calculator: https://www.rec-registry.gov.au/rec-registry/app/calculators/swh-stc-calculator
