Inverters - limiting export without shutting PV output off entirely, to avoid solar export charges.

"I'm reading about proposals to charge for export. I'd like to understand what inverter smarts are available to respond to signals from the meter/grid in order to limit export without shutting PV output off entirely."

"Most inverters only have limited monitoring and don't alert the user to much short of system failure, however there are some inverters that do have more extensive monitoring capabilities. Notably the Fronius Energy Meter, which was developed for customers whose distributors have imposed export limits. The inverter can throttle back the panels when it realizes the limit has been reached, and it can also enable you to see consumption and generation on the Fronius Solarweb monitoring platform.

You can also pay for a third party monitoring. Solar Analytics costs $6 a month OR if you get it installed with your system, it's a one-off of about $300."
