Do I need to get my gas heater checked for carbon monoxide leaks?

You should always check gas heaters regularly as they pose a risk of releasing lethal carbon monoxide. Split-system air conditioners do not have this issue. 
Have your gas heater serviced every year if it is well used. 
You can also purchase carbon monoxide monitors from a hardware store.
